We went to breakfast and straight to the Kirtland Temple, checked out the museum there and then went on a 10:30 am tour of the Temple, it was so cool to see inside and walk through the halls and see Joseph's desk and chair and sit in the room he worked in and the Assemble rooms were just wonderful and to think about what happened in this wonderful building, I just wish our church owned it and it was a detecatied building again, I pray that some day it will be ours again.
Front door of the Temple, this is the original Front door and the original color
These are some beautiful flowers on the Temple grounds
This is just such a cute home we came acoss in Burton
After the Temple we drove through Amish country, town of Middlefield, didn't stop we have such a long way to go to get to Nauvoo, but we did see a couple of horse and buggy's I just love to see them.
Then we went to Hiram to visit the John and Alice Johnson Farm, they were a wonderful family, who owned 160 acres and lived in a log cabin until they could build there dream home, and it truly would ba a dream home for that day, its really big, and the colors they used in the home are so fun, the chuch has restored it to just they way it was in the 1830's.
This is the home that Joseph and Emma were staying in when the mob came and took him out and tarred and feathered him and one of the twins died, being exposed to the weather and having measles, this was also the Church headquarters for one year, and many significan historical events occureed here.
They got the oringinal colors from the insides of the cupboards, and this was the way they liked to paint on the doors, they all look like this all thought the house.
This is the main house kitchen, notice the pots hanging in the fireplace, she loved to cook by the fire instead of a stove, and the oven on the left could hold 18 loaves of bread, she needed to make a lot every week - they had 10 kids and then the Smiths lived there and they always had company, having the Prophet there brought lots of people.
another shot of the pantry, notice the round boxes, they used to make cheese, and sell it
This is a tiny little bedroom next to the kitchen, they used this for having babies, or the sick, close to the fireplace so it was a nice warm room
This in John's little office next to the kitchen
This is the living room, with period funiture, this is not the Johnson's furniture
This is the room Joseph and Emma slept in, the night the mob came in Emma was sleeping with the little girl twin and Joseph the lttle boy twin, the little boy died 5days later, from exposure and the Measles
This is another shot of the same room
Attic, where they were able to put lots of guests, if needed
Another shot of Alice's work room
This is where Joseph worked on the JST of the bible
This is the only home in all the historical homes we have seen to have these fun colors in, they had fun taste
This is the Cemetary next to the Temple, we didn't spent to much time here
